What Is The Order?

“There is something about the movement, the Order and even about me [Sangharakshita] that is not easily definable. There is a touch of something that cannot be buttoned down, something that in the end cannot be defined.”

Do we see the Order as a practice in itself or as a support for our own individual practice? We’ll be examining kalyana mitrata and the significance of the private and public ordinations in order to find our own answers.

The Bodhisattva Path

“The Dharma life does indeed liberate one from the tyranny of self, with all its suffering. But one is liberated to an increasingly rich and subtle awareness from which compassionate activity spontaneously flows. ” (Subhuti)

How do we bring an altruistic aspect to our Going for Refuge? What is the truth behind becoming less selfish? On this retreat we’ll look at the path of the Bodhisattva path and its relevance to us as members and future members of the Order.

Going for Refuge Weekend

"Hitting the Wall"

What happens when we lose our inspiration and practice seems hard and something of a slog? What helps us touch our faith again and how do we think our faith manifests? If you've ever felt being a dharma practitioner is difficult at times come and explore with others why this is and how it can be used as an opportunity for growth and increased understanding.

This is a chance for a booster shot of Tiratanaloka and to spend time with sangha friends.

Going for Refuge (for carers only)

“We too are capable of gaining Enlightenment. This is what committing oneself to the Buddha means....It means recognizing Buddhahood as a practical ideal for human beings, and actually devoting all one’s energies toward the realization of that ideal.”

The theme of this retreat is Sangharakshita’s unique vision of the act of Going for Refuge to the Three Jewels as the “central and definitive act of the Buddhist life”. We will explore the levels and aspects of this act and how they are supported by a mandala of teachings and practices.
